With only three weeks remaining before the Easter break, both teachers and students are showing signs of ‘wear and tear’ that is often the case leading up to the holidays. It seems that the coming break is indeed very timely.
PARENT – TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Commencing this week, parents have the opportunity to meet with teachers to discuss their child’s progress so far this year. Parent-teacher interviews are a great way to find out how your child is going and show your interest in your child’s learning and school life.
Why is it worth going to parent-teacher interviews?
Parent-teacher interviews give you a great opportunity to:
- learn more about your child’s academic, emotional and social development
- meet and get to know your child’s teacher
- help your child’s teacher understand more about your child
- make plans with the teacher about how you can both support your child
- build a relationship with your child’s school
- if you don’t get through everything you want to discuss, you might need to arrange another meeting with your child’s teacher.
Talking with your teacher:
Being open and friendly will set you up for positive communication with the teacher. You can show that you respect what the teacher is saying by listening carefully and trying not to become too defensive, even if you disagree with the feedback.
If you have a concern about something, try to be specific and avoid blame. If you have to discuss any problems with the teacher, it helps to come ready with some possible solutions, or at least some positive and practical suggestions. Be willing to listen to the teacher’s ideas too. The aim is for you and your child’s teacher to work on problems in partnership with each other. After all, you both share the same goal of wanting your child to learn and feel successful.
If you make any decisions, it’s good to agree on who will follow up and when.
NAPLAN 2025
Thank you to parents and staff for having the students prepared and for the great atmosphere amongst all the students during the days of testing. Although some aspects of the tests may have been challenging in some areas of Conventions of Language, Writing, Reading and Numeracy across all year levels, we must remember that this is only one part of the overall picture of where our children are at this point in time.
We also need to bear in mind that while important, this assessment does not – and cannot – reflect the holistic approach to teaching and learning in our school; our commitment to educate not only the mind but also the heart and spirit. And as the NAPLAN website makes clear, nor does it replace the extensive, ongoing assessments made by teachers about each student’s performance.
MONTY’S COLOUR & SLIME FUN RUN – CANCELLED
Unfortunately, we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel tomorrow's Monty's Colour and Slime Fun Run due to the current weather conditions, and the uncertainty of what the weather may be like tomorrow.
Our fun run will be rescheduled for a later date in the year, and as always thank you all for your understanding and continued support.
DATE CLAIMER:
- CROSS COUNTRY EVENTS (9:00am start):
- Friday, 28 March (students born 2013 – 2015) and

We are always grateful for our parents’ energy and involvement in our school.

Feast of St Joseph:
Tomorrow is a special day for us as we celebrate the Feast Day of the Patron Saint of our School and Church.
Everything we know about the husband of Mary and the foster-father of Jesus comes from Scripture. We know he was a carpenter, and a caring and compassionate man in the way he took care of Mary and Jesus. As our patron Saint, Joseph can teach us so much about our faith in God and love for others. Since Joseph does not appear in Jesus' public life, at his death, or resurrection, many historians believe Joseph had most likely died before Jesus entered public ministry.
Prayer:
Saint Joseph, patron of the universal Church, watch over the Church as carefully as you watched over Jesus, help protect it and guide it as you did with your adopted son. Amen
Celebrating St Joseph’s Day: Wednesday 19 March
We will be having a fun-filled day tomorrow to celebrate our patron saint’s feast day.
This will include the celebration of a whole school liturgy at 10.00 am. Badges will be officially distributed to our Mini Vinnies executive and representatives during the liturgy.
In the middle session, we were going to have Monty the Monstar’s Fun Run for the first time on St Joseph’s Day, but unfortunately the weather did not make it favourable to continue. Icy poles will still be given out to students during the day.
In the afternoon, teachers have planned some fun St Joseph’s Day activities for students to complete in their classrooms.
God bless,

We know reading regularly offers numerous benefits for students. Today I want to briefly focus on the benefits of critical thinking and analytical skills, through reading. When children dive into different books, they start to evaluate information, spot biases, and see things from various angles. This helps them think more critically because they learn to analyze content, question assumptions, and come up with well-informed conclusions. This takes time, of course.
Reading also helps kids connect different ideas and concepts, which is great for their problem-solving skills. As they explore different scenarios and viewpoints in stories, they practise breaking down complex issues and building strong arguments. It also helps build the skill of seeing things from different points of view.
You can support your child’s development of their critical thinking and analytical skills by simply chatting with them about what they read. Encouraging them to share their thoughts and opinions helps solidify these skills. Conversations don’t necessarily need to be a formal sit-down occasion. They can be in the car, unpacking the dishes or in bed just before the lights go out.
A great way into the conversation is to use open-ended questions such as, “What was the book you read about? What did you think of the book?” For younger students, you can still have these conversations, by discussing the books and the characters within, which you have read together.
Author Mark Haddon says, “Reading is a conversation. All books talk. But a good book listens as well.” Books not only communicate ideas but also engage with the reader’s thoughts and feelings. Happy conversing.

Parents and grandparents taking the opportunity to share books with their children in Year 1F before school. How special.
We have made the tough decision to reschedule tomorrow's Monty the Monstar’s Colour & Slime event.
We have had a bit of drizzle for our events in previous years, but this rain seems entrenched. It takes at least 3 hours to set-up which will not be fun in the rain. While I’m sure the students will still have fun, they will be saturated and cold, and the oval will be worse for wear, particularly with the cross-country coming up.
The new date will be decided at the next P&F meeting in Term 2. Please reassure your children that the event will still go ahead, it will just be later in the year.
Special thanks to Crystal Lloyd for all her work in planning the course – finer weather will certainly do it more justice. Thanks to all the people who have volunteered supplies and to our wonderful parent group who have cleared some time to be there. Cheers to all those who have donated to the fundraising side of the event and thanks to Mrs P, Mrs Mac and school staff for supporting this event.
So, while the event has been postponed, the fundraising continues!!
There is still time to register and create a profile page. https://myprofilepage.com.au/
I have been in touch with Australian Fundraising - we have extended the closing date and will arrange an end-date when we decide on it!!
Prizes for the highest fundraiser in the school and the highest fundraiser class are on offer. Depending on how much your child raises, they can choose from a great range of incentive prizes or donate towards some great causes. The school will also benefit from the money going towards some projects to benefit our kids.
Thank you for your understanding,
Tamara Grace, Secretary P&F
